I’m A Celebrity: Harry Redknapp slams ‘s*** footballers’ for getting paid huge sums of money

Harry Redknapp slammed ‘s*** footballers’ for making as much as £4 million-a-year when he said that they ‘can’t play’.

The former football manager, 71, was talking about wages with James McVey, 24, during a candid chat in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here on Friday.

In response to the Vamps’ guitarist’s discussion about his career, Harry said: ‘You are great at what you do, very different to what I thought, very different to football.’

Harry then hit out at the huge sums that some players receive, as he added: ‘There are s**t footballers getting 80 grand a week. Half of them can’t play, it’s scary.’

Earlier on, James was talking about his finances when he confessed: ‘People don’t realise the money associated, so for example our best year was when I was 19 the band made four million.

‘Now there’s four of us in the band and I pay 45% tax, 20% to our management and our record label takes 10% so in my best year ever I earned 250k and that’s the most I’ve ever earned in a year.’

Continuing with his detailed explanation, James said: ‘Now I’m on 150k a year and so I can’t afford to get a really lovely car, I’ve got a second hand car that was like 30 grand and I traded my old one in for it.

‘I’m very happy but ten years ago there was a lot more money in the music industry.

‘Now it’s difficult and unless you are one of the biggest people in the world, there’s not millions and millions.’

James also talked with Harry about the final of the series, and who will be next to be evicted when he claimed that some contestants were acting for cameras.

Despite not using names, he accused his fellow contestants – Emily Atack, Fleur East and John Barrowman – of being ‘actors’ and ‘performing for the cameras’.

He said: ‘There’s a few actors, people performing for the cameras. It’s frustrating sometimes.’

At the end of the episode, James became the seventh contestant to be eliminated from the jungle, leaving Harry, Emily, John and Fleur as the final four.
