Six-bedroom Mayfair mansion sells for ‘just’ £39million after £11m is knocked off the original price

A historic six-bedroom Mayfair mansion has sold for ‘just’ £39million after being on the market for two years and having £11million knocked off the asking price.

The lavish property on Stanhope Gate, near Park Lane, comes complete with a swimming pool, steam room and cinema with whisky bar.

Details lodged with the Land Registry show it was bought by a British Virgin Islands-registered company at the start of November for £38.8million, reports the Evening Standard.

However once fees and stamp duty are accounted for the total cost of the six-story Grade II listed home is expected to be close to £45 million.

In a brochure made by Beauchamp Estates the home is described as being in ‘the heart of Mayfair’ and only minutes from exclusive The Dorchester hotel.

Inside the home there is a media room, pool, steam room and study, which are all accessible by a built in lift.

A roof terrace featuring a working fireplace and bar with views of Hyde Park is also included in the £39million price along with a wine cellar and staff quarters.

The property was built around 1757 in the reign of George II and many period features remain. After the Second World War, it was converted into a banking hall and offices.

Surviving original features of the 11,100sq ft home include a Portland stone staircase and extensive wood panelling.

There’s also carefully restored late Georgian paneling in the entrance hall and a new Georgian-style fireplace.

The interiors were created by celebrity designer Nicola Fontanella, whose clients have included Madonna and Naomi Campbell, reports the Evening Standard.

The entire second floor of the mansion is dedicated to a master bedroom suite, including a powder room, bathroom and two spacious dressing areas.

In the information leaflet Beauchamp Estates also says it is possible for concierge services to be arranged for the luxury home.

Cleaning, laundry and even providing fresh flowers can be arranged by local specialist providers, including the hotels in the area.
