Gisele Bündchen reveals why she walked away from Victoria’s Secret

She was one of Victoria’s Secret‘s top Angels between 1999 and 2006.

And while many models aspire to land the coveted catwalk show and earn their wings, Gisele Bündchen has now revealed her time wasn’t as heavenly as it may have appeared.

Reflecting in her new memoir, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, the 38-year-old revealed that after feeling more and more uncomfortable with walking around in her underwear, her decision to walk away from the lingerie giant was made by scrunching up two pieces of paper with the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’ on them.

‘For the first five years, I felt comfortable modeling in lingerie, but as time went on, I felt less and less at ease being photographed walking the runway wearing just a bikini or a thong,’ she penned.

‘Give me a tail, a cape, wings – please, anything to cover me up a little!’

Gisele revealed that in the beginning of her 1999 contract with Victoria’s Secret, she was ‘so happy’ to have gained financial security in what is usually quite a paycheck to paycheck industry.

She said that the brand made up 80% of her annual income, however, when 2006 came around, she was uncertain whether or not she wanted to sign on once again.

‘I was certainly grateful for the opportunity and the financial security the company had given me, but I was at a different place in my life, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue working there,’ she said.

Gisele continued that the non-stop travel, appearances, shoots as well as the print and television commercials really began to leave its toll on her – so she left her fate in the hands of a teacup.

Mixed feelings: 'I was certainly grateful for the opportunity and the financial security the company had given me, but I was at a different place in my life, and I wasn't sure I wanted to continue working there,' she said (pictured 2002)

‘I crumpled up two small pieces of paper and placed them inside a empty teacup,’ the wife of NFL legend Tom Brady recalled, explaining she wrote the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’ on each.

‘I closed my eyes and set an intention: whatever piece of paper I chose would be for my highest and best self and be the right decision.’

And it was ‘no’ that she chose.

She walked away: '"No" was the answer I unconsciously wanted to hear,' continued Gisele. 'It was also the answer my body wanted to hear, and I believe, had been trying to tell me for days'

And although the Brazilian beauty cut ties with the lingerie giants, there was no bad blood – with good friend and Victoria’s Secret Chief Creative Officer Ed Razek the one who set her up on a blind date with now husband Tom.

The athlete and model first began dating in December 2006 before tying the knot three years later.

Gisele and Tom are the parents to  Benjamin Rein, eight, and Vivian Lake, five.

She’s also the step-mom to the New England Patriot’s first child John “Jack” Edward Thomas, 11, who he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan.
